a gray morning
drenched
with the joy
of waking up
to a new day
at home.
the smell of fresh paint
says hello
and good morning!
bare feet
waking up
to cold floors
guide me
towards the kettle
(always on,
we're home, you see)
eyes not yet ready
to take in
the light.
wood. stone. leather. wool.
the elements breathe in
the calm.
i offer my self space.
a slow morning.
later,
i will slurp miso soup
from a clay bowl
and tackle the last
of the boxes:
my studio.
(i always save the best
for last)
tell me,
dear soul,
what is home
to you?
home is a feeling. in my chest. an interior location as opposed to a geographical one. i feel it when im with those i love. i feel it when the sun shines through slate grey skies. i feel it amongst the bird song in the trees, when wrapped warm beneath winter constellations, when i read somebody's words that could be mine. home is the feeling belonging. with whoever and wherever that may be.

I think we always need to "make" a place home. I have been in my home just a year and a half and it has only recently started to feel like home. Each little touch I put on it makes it feel more like me. And my soul simply takes time to recognize home, it is a settling in, getting used to the nooks and crannies, the sounds, the lay of the land.
ReplyDeleteyours looks beautiful! is your soul settling in?
