our lady of foreseeable risk

everything is new around here.
new life. new color. new adventures.
found confidence. renewed joy.

it starts off with feelings
of being overwhelmed,
fear, inadequacy, so little sleep.
then, bit by bit,
you do the work
and find that love sustains you.
you stop sweating the little things,
you lean in
to the built in moments of just being...
you grow into your true self,
without even noticing,
now that your focus is outside yourself.

welcome to motherhood.

"once we believe in ourselves
we can risk curiosity,
wonder, spontaneous delight,
or any experience
that reveals the human spirit."
- e. e. cummings

  1. congratulations on your new love to nourish and cherish.

    1. ... to to challenge me. :) thank you!

  2. I love the e.e. cummings quote... and all your pieces... and my 3 sons are all grown up now but I still remember the first time I held the little body.. unsure, worried I might do something wrong...but day by day love always made everything work out better and better to the point that I had 2 more :-)

    1. it's always surprising how we get to feel ready for a second and perhaps even third, eh? :) 3 boys are bound to be a real challenge. respect to you for rising to the occasion!

  3. i love your mixed media work! the vitality of the color and form really evokes a deep longing...

    1. perhaps the first time the term "vitality" was used to describe my color palette. :) thank you for your generosity!

  4. You have said it so well. I am "mothering " a new venture and I can tell you I relate to all these motherhood observations! Glad to see you here in the blog world. xoxo

  5. Your work is beautiful. I just found you on etsy and I am drawn to your white, grey, beige palette. I admire your artwork, it moves the soul. Motherhood is the best thing I ever gave myself to.
